Join your neighborhood association
If you own or rent in the South or East Lake Morton historic districts, you're already a neighbor. Membership just means we know how to reach you, and you get a say in what we do.

Why bother?

We all live here together. We might as well get to know each other.
LMNA is the neighborhood's early warning system and its front door. When a developer files something down the block, when the City changes trash pickup, when a house on the register is threatened, this is where you hear about it first, and where neighbors decide what to do.
It's also where you find out who's a good roofer for a 1924 bungalow.
Meeting notices, event invitations, and city news that affects your street
A network of neighbors who've solved the same historic-home problems you have
Discounts or free entry at LMNA socials and porch parties
A vote at meetings and a seat on the board, if you want one
What LMNA actually does
â—† â—†
Our purpose is to:
Maintain, enhance, and encourage quality housing that reinforces the character, charm, and architectural integrity of our historic neighborhood
Provide a focal point for neighborhood issues that affect a significant number of residents
Promote beautification, pride, and good stewardship of neighborhood amenities and common spaces
Promote communication and cooperation among neighbors, and between the neighborhood and the City of Lakeland
In practice, that has looked like:
The annual Historic Home & Garden Tour
Porch parties, socials, and a support network for people maintaining old houses
Quarterly Adopt-a-Lake cleanups at Lake Morton
Installing and maintaining the swan holiday lights
The neighborhood plan, developed with the City to guide development here
Standing representation at Code Enforcement and Historic Preservation Board meetings
Historic Lake Morton neighborhood signs at intersections throughout the district
Opposing a 170-foot cell tower at Ingraham and Frank Lloyd Wright Way
Formal comment on Florida Southern College's master plan and the City's SPI zoning process
Donations to local charities
Books and magazine subscriptions on historic homes donated to the Lakeland Public Library
Most of this needs neighbors. If any of it sounds like your thing, say so when you join.
